BRISTOL SAXOPHONE QUARTET

Why not book a saxophone quartet for your next social function? Whether it be a corporate event, a wedding or any other gathering the Bristol Saxophone Quartet has the experience and wide choice of music to enhance the occasion. Our repertoire includes light classical music, novelty items, jazz and our speciality --- the music from the Great American Song Book (Gershwin etc.)

The quartet was formed in 1979 and since then has given many performances in the Bristol area and beyond. These have included concerts in schools, Thornbury Arts Festival, a fringe event for the Bath Festival and broadcasts on Radio Bristol. There have also been appearances at jazz venues accompanied by piano, bass and drums.

Bob Bennett - Soprano

Bob Bennett

Following service with the band of the Royal Corps of Signals, Bob studied for the teaching profession at St.Luke's College, Exeter with further study at the Birmingham School of Music. A founder member of the BSQ his wide experience as violinist and saxophone player, includes playing in orchestras, chamber groups, dance bands and for shows. He also was for many years one of the conductors for South Gloucestershire Schools' annual Music Festival.

Paul Egan - Alto

Paul Egan

Paul has been playing and teaching woodwind for many years, having qualified at Trinity College London, although since 1993 his main profession is that of woodwind repairs. An active player of both saxophone and flute, he has played in numerous bands, orchestras and ensembles. He also enjoys composition and arranging and has had several publications for wind ensembles. He is the director of a biannual windband course held at Knuston Hall, Northamptonshire.

Peter Hopcroft - Tenor

Peter Hopcroft

A former student of Bob Bennett, Peter went on to read physics with music on the joint course at Imperial College and the Royal College of Music. Peter has performed in chamber, orchestral, big band and jazz group concerts and continues to devote time to playing jazz and classical saxophone in parallel with a career in research. Recently he has performed on tour in Berlin and has taken part in the Cheltenham Jazz Festival Fringe.

Rebecca Sweeney - Baritone

Rebecca Sweeney

Rebecca studied music at university and for a Teaching Diploma with the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She has played with and directed a variety of bands and became a member of the Bristol Saxophone Quartet in 2000 where she enjoys the challenge of combined performing and weight-lifting with an instrument that weighs 12kgs! Rebecca is a peripatetic woodwind teacher, working in local schools and teaching privately.
